It's All About Personal Decisions

How Do You Define and Act on Your Sustainability Ethic?

It may have something to do with the day after Christmas and waxing philosophical, but I'm thinking that sustainable travel is a personal choice and we can't put somebody else's label on it.

There is a difference in what we know would give us a gold star approval rating as a sustainable traveler and what we actually pull off. Are we sustainable if we ask the hotel not to change our towels everyday? What if we stay only in eco-approved accommodations? Or do we only get that gold star if we follow all the criteria for being a green traveler?

My read on this is that whatever we do to minimize our travel footprint is better than nothing at all. And conscious choices are the first step to practicing sustainably all the time, whether we are acting on being sustainable locally or traveling globally.

Am I on track here or is this a cop out? What's your opinion?
