Can you Say Jjimjilbang? Korea's Stress Busters

Korea is capitalizing on upscaling their traditional stress reliever, the jjimjilbang, their version of Japan’s hot springs and Finland’s saunas.

Koreans believe (no argument here) that it’s beneficial to one's health to use hot rooms built from different materials to produce some cool therapeutic benefits.

Rooms made from a rock Koreans call “maekban” are good for your skin. You can try amethyst for improving circulation and then there’s rooms made with yellow mud for tuning up the digestive tract. Green jadeite and germanium help to boost blood circulation and the body's metabolism.

Here’s a plus! Jjimjilbang is safer than conventional saunas that use circulated air because heat for Korea’s saunas comes from infrared rays in the floor.

The experience is highly recommended by our Korea expert Maureen O'Crowley. She’s in Seoul these days marketing the city of Seoul and finds regular jjimjuibang sessions are the perfect unstress environment.

Even if you are transiting through Seoul, you can experience jjimjuibang yourself as a delicious energizer before the next leg of your trip.

I’m learning to pronounce it so I won’t embarrass Maureen when I get to Seoul.
