This is a dream come true experience - The Land of Shangri-La with traditional
Minority Bai, Naxi and Dongba villages, peaceful people in the stunning color of their
costumes, spectacular scenery of the Stone Forest, ancient waterways and old towns, temples
and rice terraces, as well as the National Park of Jiuzhaigo and the Panda Nature
Reserve.
We will focus on local culture, minority customs, scenery and local
taste/entertainment.
This tour is mostly in high altitude (8,000-10,000 feet) so you will be in good health and ready
for some adventure.
Day 1
Greeting at Kunming airport and transfer to hotel. Welcome dinner
Day 2
Visit Dianchi Lake and Golden Temple, afternoon at Bird and Flower Market (B,L,D) Special
rice noodle dinner with minority region entertainment
Day 3
Drive to Shilin (the Stone Forest) about 70 miles east of Kunming, a maze of grey limestone
towers reaching 100 feet high. Overnight in Chuxiong (B,L,D)
Day 4
Drive to Dali, cruise on Erhai Lake and its island, Bai minority dance and tea ceremony on
board. Afternoon visit of the Butterfly Spring, Triple Pagodas and Ancient City
Day 5
Drive to Lijiang, visit a minority village and the largest silver museum in China on the way.
Afternoon tour of Lijiang Ancient city
Day 6
Full day tour of Yulong (Jade Dragon) Mountain- the Shangari-la and the ranch along the
White Water river
Transfer to airport and fly to Chengdu, transfer to hotel, rest of the day free
Day 8
Fly to Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) and tour of Huanglong Lake. Afternoon drive to
Jiuzhaiguo (B,L,D)
Day 9
Full day tour of Jiuzhaigo National Reserve (B,L,D)
Day 10
Fly back to Chengdu, drive to Wolong Natural Reserve, over night in the guesthouse.
Day 11
Tour of the facility including the Panda Breeding Center and get intimate with the Giant Pandas.
Afternoon return to Chengdu with city tour. Overnight in Chengdu
Day 12
Transfer to airport to either fly back to US or take the optional tour to Tibet
Get a taste of Tibet with this option tour extension
Day 12
Fly to Lhasa, greeting at the airport and take a scenic ride to the city, visiting Niedang Buddha
statue on the way to hotel, rest of the day free for acclimation
Day 13
Full day tour of Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple, stroll at the Barkhor, the Pilgrim's Circuit
and bazaar
Day 14
Full day tour of Yangbajing - the northern grassland, with the hot springs groups --
Yangbajing geothermal (privately) steam, and the Tanggula Mountain Range. Hot springs soak
is optional, evening return to Lhasa
